I Sing Because I'm Happy

Nadzieja Jadwiga McMillan

Available1 copy in collection
Nadzia lost her father when she was a young child. Her mother did not want to raise her children in the USSR with its aetheistic government. The family fled to Poland, and because she could not afford to keep her children, Nadzia's mother was forced to place them in an all-girl orphanage. Nadzia lived there for 12 years. Nadzia loved to sing and at the age of five she began singing for visitors who came to the orphanage. In December of 1936, Nadzia came to the United States with a Polish Missionary Choir. When the choir returned to Poland a few months later, Nadzia chose to stay in America and attend Muskingum College in Ohio. This is her story.
