A Place for You

Paul Tournier

Available1 copy in collection
Modern man is perpetually haunted by a deep loneliness, a terrible insecurity. Paul Tournier, renowned doctor and psychiatrist, tells us how one of his patients wistfully expressed this need to him: "At bottom, I am always seeking a PLACE." We all need a place. All our lives we are attached to places. The longing of orphans, refugees, and those from broken homes is present in a great variety of people. In a world which compels a person to adapt to ever-changing surroundings, one must find a place of their own in the midst of a whirlwind. Dr. Tournier points out that it is those who have found their place found their place, that God sends the call to move on. We need to have a home before we can we leave it. We need to receive before we can give, for no one can give what he does not have. This is the rhythm of life. Find a place and then leave it for a new place. God, says the author, is behind us, both in finding our place, and launching out of one place of security to another place with the faith to believe we can do this or die of stagnation.
